While I have been flaunting the fact that I have been able to make picks while in the process of moving. Making picks while unpacking has been even more challenging. I did my usual research and I like my picks, but based on Wednesday night, if you are taking my advice, maybe pick against me. I didn’t have enough time to do a full write up for each fight. Sorry about that. Here are my picks.

MAIN CARD

DEIVESON FIGUEIREDO V. JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ

The first fight ended in a TKO of Joseph Benavidez. The finishing sequence began after an accidental headbutt. Benavidez clearly won the first round. Figueiredo has a huge power advantage in this fight. Benavidez has the speed and cardio advantage. Benavidez’s offense is about pressure and moving forward. He does tend to get hit when he moves forward. He might have to put himself into danger in this fight. I think he is going to learn from the first fight and keep this to a distance fight and keep out of the range of Figueiredo and drag him to championship rounds and gas him out. But Figueiredo has the power to end it at any moment.

Joseph Benavidez (+180) by decision

JACK HERMANSSON V. KELVIN GASTELUM

A litmus test for both fighters. Kelvin has not really beaten anyone in their prime. Hermansson has beaten some solid fighters and has faltered when he reached the top of the division. If Kelvin could healthily cut to 170, that is probably the best place for him. I think he is just too small for the middleweight division. He is stocky and has trouble with the longer fighters. He is a strong wrestler, but relies on his standup game and knockout power. Look for that to be the case here. Hermansson can use his length to keep Kelvin at distance and pick him apart or Hermansson can wrestle him down and go for a submission.

Jack Hermansson (-110) by decision

MARC DIAKIESE V. RAFAEL FIZIEV

I think this can be a banger of a fight. Both guys are pretty violent. Both are young and hungry fighters with power. They are each coming off some solid wins and are looking to build on that and move up the division. This is a big spot for them on the main card on Fight Island. I like this matchup and think both of these guys can come away with some fans.

Marc Diakiese (-160) by by 1st round TKO

ARIANE LIPSKI V. LUANA CAROLINA

I may have left the battle of nicknames, Meatball Molly McCann v. Ariane Queen of Violence Lipski, as a huge fan of Meatball Molly McCann, but the Queen of Violence held up her end of the fight as well. She is coming off her first UFC win to face Luana Carolina who is also coming off her first UFC win. Both of these flyweights want to make a statement in a thin flyweight division. This might be a fun fight. Their last fights were sloppy brawls and I have a feeling it might be the same.

Ariane Lipski (-120) by decision

ALEXANDRE PANTOJA V. ASKAR ASKAROV

This should be one hell of a fucking matchup. Two young flyweights that are coming off big wins look to collide and hopefully get a chance to face the winner of the main event. Well, Pantoja is a lot closer to the title shot than Askarov. Pantoja was the emergency replacement, but if Askarov beats him, you can’t knock his title aspirations. Pantoja is a knockout artist, Askarov is a wrestling submission specialist. I think this fight will have fireworks and I am very much looking forward to it.

Alexandre Pantoja (-200) by 2nd round TKO

PRELIMS

ROMAN DOLIDZE V. KHADIS IBRAGIMOV

Khadis Ibragimov (+135) by decision

GRANT DAWSON V. NAD NARIMANI

Grant Dawson (-250) by decision

JOSEPH DUFFY V. JOEL ALVAREZ

Joseph Duffy (-340) by 1st round TKO

BRETT JOHNS V. MONTEL JACKSON

Brett Johns (+170) by decision

MALCOLM GORDON V. AMIR ALBAZI

Malcolm Gordon (+125) by 1st round submission

DAVI RAMOS V. ARMAN TSARUKYAN

Arman Tsarukyan (-210) by 3rd round submission

CARLOS FELIPE V. SERGEY SPIVAK

Sergey Spivak (-170) by decision

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT

MARC DIAKIESE V. RAFAEL FIZIEV
